Sarasota Beach Portraits - Frequently Asked Questions
Could you describe a typical beach session?
We will meet at an agreed upon location on the beach about 1 hour before sunset. I will spend time photographing you near the beautiful sand dunes and sea grass with more traditional poses. I also spend time photographing families within the larger family, parents without their children, and the children alone. We will then walk down near the water to take many fun and candid shots. Once the sun sets, the sky and clouds will change colors frequently for the next 20 minutes and we will take additional shots with the beautiful sky as the background. When posing your family, I will make sure that everyone including the kids are looking at the camera, smiling, and I will be checking every detail such as hair, hands, and feet placement are perfect in order to produce a stunning image.
What happens after the beach session?
After the session, I will upload digital proofs to a private online gallery for you to select your favorites. Once your favorites are selected, I will professionally retouch the images if you ordered retouching. To fully retouch an image, I spend considerable time (20-30 minutes) per image removing blemishes, whitening teeth, enhancing colors, slimming people if needed, removing some wrinkles, and removing distracting objects from the background. I make sure everyone looks amazing! I then supply full-resolution images to you via a download link. You can then print these at your own photo lab. I give you full reprint rights for the digital images. I also partner with a professional photo lab that allows you to order stunning wall prints on a variety of materials directly from my website and the prints are shipped directly to your door.
What should we wear?
What tends to look best is white tops with khaki bottoms or white tops with jean bottoms. White looks stunning against the beautiful white sandy beaches. Other colors can work as well such as pastels. Try to pick two to three colors and mix and match them among people in your party. Avoid wearing black, patterns, and writing on shirts. You should wear shirts and tops with sleeves to avoid seeing swimsuit tan lines for women and sunburns for men and women. Women should avoid miniskirts. Also avoid wearing lotions as the sand will stick to your lotion. It can get pretty windy on the beach, so try to have enough hair product to minimize flying away hair if possible.
How many photos do you take during a session?
I tend to take anywhere from 300 to 1000 photos during a beach session. It all depends on the size of your party and how many groupings of people I photograph.
How much time do we need for our beach portrait?
We will meet 1 hour before sunset and continue shooting up to 20 minutes after sunset. This time is called the golden hour because the warm light from the setting sun looks golden and beautiful. People aren’t squinting and skin tones look fabulous.
What happens if it rains the day of our shoot?
I recommend that you book your session early in your stay in case we need to reschedule due to rain. If it rains and we both have the option to reschedule, we will do that. If for some good reason, we can’t reschedule, I will refund your session fee in full.
How long have you been a professional photographer?
I’ve been a professional photographer for over 11 years.
Will you be photographing us?
I personally will be photographing you.
How long does it take to receive my images?
After your session, you can expect to see your images in your online gallery within 2 business days. Once your final order is made, depending on how many images need to be fully retouched, you can expect your digital images from 2 to 5 business days. Fully retouching an image can take between 20-30 minutes and I do the retouching myself.
What is included in my session fee?
You will have my personal time and talent for an hour before sunset and up to 20 minutes after sunset. I will take many poses and groupings of people with various backgrounds including sea grass, sand dunes, the water, and the sky. After the images are uploaded to my computer, I reduce the number of images to a reasonable number by removing images where eyes are closed, duplicates, bad expressions, etc. I choose to keep the absolute best images and upload around 200 images to a private online gallery for your viewing and selection. Images and prints are not included in the session fee and are ordered separately.
When is the session fee due?
The session fee is due at the time of booking to secure your date. Once paid, it guarantees my time for your date. As you can understand, if I don’t collect payment and then you cancel, I would be giving up having another client for the same date.
What type of payments do you accept?
I accept cash, check, credit cards, or PayPal. Typically, I will send you a PayPal invoice via email where it is simple and secure to pay using a debit or credit card. You don’t need a PayPal account to pay the invoice.
What are full reprint rights?
With each digital image that I give you, you have the right to copy, share, and print the images at the photo lab of your choice for personal use only. You cannot modify the images in any way or sell them for profit. I own the copyright of the images.
Can I have the un-retouched digital images?
Yes you can have the un-retouched images in full resolution. I prefer to deliver fully retouched images worthy of hanging on your wall but I understand that you may want the un-retouched images as well. With beach photos, it is very typical that people have sunburns and fly-away hairs from the wind and these are among the many things that I remove and fix when I retouch. If I don't retouch, each image still requires work on my part to make the image beautiful. I do offer various quantities for un-retouched images.
What is your cancelation policy?
If it rains and we both have the option to reschedule, we will do that. If for some good reason, we can’t reschedule, I will refund your session fee in full.
What happens if I don’t like any of my images?
Your satisfaction is my utmost priority. If you don’t like your images, we can reschedule a new session. If you don’t want to reschedule, I will refund your session in full.
